Distration Burglary and Rogue Traders

Alert message sent 14/05/2018 16:00:00

Information sent on behalf of Bedfordshire Police

Dear Residents

At this time of year we receive a spike in calls where by rogue traders have scammed money out of often elderly/vulnerable residents.  Rogue traders often try to push residents into agreeing to unnecessary home repairs, gardening work or home improvements.

It can be difficult to get rid of doorstep callers unless you agree to sign up for whatever they are selling.  REMEMBER it is your home and you are in control.  Make sure you always use your door chain if you are answering the door to someone you are not expecting or talk through the closed door.  Don't be afraid to say NO.  Tell them you will call the Police if they persist.

If you do require a gardner or some home improvments do it on your terms and in your own time.  Use Trading Standards or a friends recomendation.

If in doubt call 999 in an emergency or 101 for all other enquiries. If you require further advice or support please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards
Gill
