Dementia Awareness

Information sent on behalf of Bedfordshire Police

Dear Residents

Are you are aware of The Herbert Protocol?

It's a national scheme designed to improve the Policing response for individuals who may suffer from Dementia, Alzheimer’s disease or memory problems if they go missing. The way we do this is by gathering information on the individual for example; their description, photo, favorite places, usual habits/patterns etc.  We do this in the comfort of their own home with their families/friends or carers. This information is stored on our Missing Persons database.  If that person was then reported missing, as we hold all the relevant information we can start searching straight away.  This also benefits loved ones as they are not asked lots of questions at this distressing time.

If you would like more information regarding The Herbert Protocol or if you know someone who would like this service then please let me know.

Kind regards
PCSO 3659 Gill Richardson
