Theft of Motor Vehicles and from Motor Vehicles

Alert message sent 22/06/2018 14:40:00

Information sent on behalf of Bedfordshire Police

You may be aware of a current disturbing trend around the theft of Motor Vehicles where access is gained without a key and without causing any damage.

Thieves are using electronic devices which can be brought on the Internet to locate and copy the radio signals sent from the key fob to the vehicle. Once the signal has been cloned/copied access can be gained to the vehicle and it can be driven away.

I order to prevent this there are some simple crime prevention measure to consider:
1. Use a magnetic pouch to keep you fob in this prevents the radio signal being captured.
2. Keep your vehicle keys as far away from doors and windows as possible when the vehicle is parked overnight on driveways. This will prevent the scammer device picking up the signal due to the distance.
3. Never leave valuables in an unattended vehicle
4. To prevent your vehicle being taken as a result of a burglary Do Not leave keys on display in the home.
