Alert message sent 16/04/2019 16:01:00

Information sent on behalf of Bedfordshire Police

Good Afternoon,
Due to recent activity in Potton, I would like to take the opportunity to advise you of the importance of securing your motor vehicles and provide some crime prevention advice around this.
Here are some of the preventative measures you could take:
  • Ensure that your vehicle is locked and all windows/sunroofs are closed correctly.
  • Do not leave things visible in your vehicle, whether that be a standalone sat nav unit or loose change.
  • Do not leave valuables in the glove box of your car, to further this you could leave it open to show it is empty to potential offenders.
  • If you can remove the fascia of your stereo, do so. This is the best way to make your stereo undesirable.
  • Sometimes, houses are burgled specifically to get the keys to a desirable vehicle parked on the drive. When at home, keep your car keys away from doors, letter boxes and windows – ensure you do not store them in an obvious place.
  • If you own a motorcycle, consider installing a ground anchor and use a sturdy chain and padlock.
  • If you have a garage, you can reinforce the security of the garage door by fitting a ‘garage defender’ – which prevents the up-and-over door from being raised.
  • If you have a work van – consider using an ‘all tools are removed from this vehicle overnight’ sticker.
Please get in contact should you require any further crime prevention advice, as I am one of your local PCSO’s.
Should you wish to report anything of concern please ring 101 or use the online reporting tool at https://www.bedfordshire.police.uk.report/Report
Kind Regards,
Jessica Hirst
