Bedfordshire Residents Safety Advice

Alert message sent 17/04/2019 08:00:00

Information sent on behalf of Bedfordshire Police

Good Morning,

I will be Liaising with Trading Standards today in relation to a resident who has unfortunately handed over a large amount of cash to a rogue trader. Rogue traders and fraudsters are currently targeting vulnerable people.

Just a reminder for Bedfordshire residents to make sure you receive quotations from at least 2 trusted traders before agreeing to an amount. If you are approached by a builder, make sure you research them and find out more about their company before agreeing to any work. You could do this by simply typing their company name onto the Google search engine and read reviews left by others. If in doubt speak to someone else for a second opinion.

There has also been cases in which a phone call is received from a variety of different companies, asking for you to withdraw cash and to hand it to a courier. Nobody genuine would ever ask you to do this.

Examples of companies these fraudsters are claiming to be from are ;

  - Banks
  - Gas Companies
  - Electric Companies
  - Water Companies
  - TV Licensing
  - HMRC (Claiming you are due a tax refund)

If someone calls you from any of the above and requests that you withdraw cash and hand it to a courier, or anything similar to this please call us and report straight away.

Stay Safe,
