Theft from cars advice

Alert message sent 06/06/2019 17:27:00

Information sent on behalf of Bedfordshire Police

Following an increase in incidents of theft from cars in your area, here are some steps you can take to protect your property.
  1. Always lock your vehicle, even if you only leave it for a moment
  2. Make sure all the windows are fully closed
  3. Do not keep your bag, rucksack, or any valuables on display, and remove them from the vehicle
  4. If you can, remove the fascia of your stereo
  5. Make sure that your sat-nav holder is out of sight. Put it away and rub away the mark on the windscreen
  6. When out and about, and if you cannot take your valuables with you, put them away in the boot where they cannot be seen, but do it before you start your journey, and not at the point of arrival when you can be observed
  7. If possible, park in your driveway and consider fitting security lights. if it’s not possible, park your car in a well-lit area
You can also register your valuables online through the Immobilise website. Although it won’t reduce the risk of being a victim of a crime, it significantly increases the chances of you being reunited with your property when recovered by the police.
Please report suspicious behaviour to the police by visiting our online reporting centre or by calling 101.
In case of emergency, or if a crime is in progress, always call 999.
