Alert message sent 31/07/2019 14:09:00

Information sent on behalf of Bedfordshire Police

Dear all,

Please can I make you aware of Fraudulent Phone Call’s residents have been receiving in the Leighton Buzzard area.

Members of the public have received calls from withheld numbers and unknown offenders claiming to be officers from different police forces. They are stating that they have a member of their family in custody and require bank details as part of their investigation.
These unknown offenders are also asking who lives at the address.
Please do not disclose personal information regarding your home, bank details etc. over the phone to unknown numbers or people.

Police officers will never ask for your bank details over the phone.

If you receive a call like this or from anyone claiming to be a police officer, if you have any suspicion over the nature of the call request their name and collar number. Then call 101 to clarify if that officer is in fact a member of that constabulary. A real certified Police Officer will have no problems giving details such as their name, collar number, force and home station.

Please challenge any calls that don’t feel right.
