Scam Alert- Fraudulent Phone Call

Alert message sent 01/08/2019 10:20:00

Information sent on behalf of Bedfordshire Police

Good Morning,

Yesterday we made you aware of a fraudulent phone call members of the public had been receiving. Following on from this last message we have now been made aware of a different fraudulent call a member of the public has also received.

They have received a call from “THEIR INTERNET PROVIDER”.
This is a recorded message and it states that “your Internet connection is going to be disconnected in 24hr due to it being involved in criminal activity”.
It then asks you to press a number to speak to someone.

If you receive this call please hang up and do not press any numbers.

If your Internet provide was calling you then it would very likely be a representative of the company calling you and they would know which Internet provider you use.
They would also ask you some security questions to confirm that they are speaking to the right person.

Also just following on from yesterday, it was pointed out by a member of the public that when clarifying a police officers identity, offenders may pass over fake details that sound real and will encourage you to immediately call 101 to verify them.
If you do this they may still be on the line and another offender will act as the 101 call handler and falsely verify the ID of the officer.
If this happens or if you are ever in doubt, hang up the phone and then if possible call 101 from a different phone. If you do not have access to another phone then if possible ask a family member or friend if you can use theirs or if they can check on your behalf.

Please don't get caught out by theses offenders!

Kind regards
