Police Update for the Cranfield Marston and Woburn area

Alert message sent 06/10/2019 12:20:00

Information sent on behalf of Bedfordshire Police

Dear Residents

Another quick update as to what’s been happening over the last few weeks and what’s coming up.

Firstly following on from the Priority Setting Meeting for our Parish Councillors which took place last month, I can confirm that the Priority work I will be focusing on over the next quarter will be Thefts from out buildings, sheds and garages, I will be particularly focusing on thefts which occur in my rural and remote villages.

Coincidently its Rural Crime Week next week and I will be working with my colleagues from our Op Sentinel Team (Rural and Wildlife Team), The Environment Agency and  NFU (to name but a few partners).

Rural businesses and homes are seen as a soft target by thieves for a number of reasons. Many premises including homes, farms and industrial units are remote, spread over a large area of land, often unoccupied overnight and can contain items of high value.  Bedfordshire Police has produced a booklet to help secure these type of properties.  The advice and information provided is designed to make it harder for the thief to commit crime and safer for you and your families/employees.  The launch of this booklet will happen next week (Thursday) however if you do require further information about this issue please contact me using the details below.

I’ve been working with the Head Teacher of the Cranfield Lower Schools with the aim of improving the safety of children when arriving and leaving school.  I’ve been at these locations along with the Central Beds Road Safety Officer to witness yet again the mayhem that can occur all be it during these brief periods of the day.  I appreciate parking around all schools is an issue but I would strongly urge all parents and carers to spare a moment’s thought as to how their parking effects pedestrians – especially children, road users and local residents.

I had a marvellous time at the Festival For Older People in Flitwick this week, the event was organized by Health Watch Central Bedfordshire.
The event was an opportunity for older people to gain useful advice and information about local services such as social care, health, housing and leisure activities.  I met lots of people who took away purse bells, personal hand held alarms and crime prevention advice.

Following on from the closure of a cannabis factory in Cranfield a few weeks ago I was yet again helping to close down another factory (a four bed detached house) in Kempston.  Although this work is hugely time and resource intensive it has such a huge impact  -not only improving the quality of life for local residents but it disrupts criminals and their illegal money making schemes.

If you do have any queries or concerns please take the opportunity to come and see me at the Co Op, Bedford Road in Marston Moretaine next Saturday morning  (12/10/19) between 10am/noon.
