Rural Crime Week Of Action - Results

Alert message sent 16/10/2019 09:32:00

Information sent on behalf of Bedfordshire Police

The National Week of Action for Rural and Wildlife Crime was a massive task and it covered the whole county for such a wide variety of issues.  Resources from our own Rural Team could not have done it without the assistance of our colleagues from our local Community Teams as well as our Partner Agencies, who worked incredibly hard. Many putting their own work on the back burner to come out and support us, working in unfamiliar areas and dealing with issues that many have not Policed. The returns have been so well received by the National Farmers Union.
During the week of action, we worked with the Environment Agency, NFU and all 3 of Bedfordshire’s local authorities. We patrolled 39 fisheries, stopped 25 waste carrying vehicles, reported 6 people for not having a waste carrying licence, reported 7 people for not completing their waste transfer notices, reported one person for not having a scrap metal licence, checked all of the scrap yards in Bedfordshire as well as other licensable sites in relation to waste crime, seized 2 cars, reported 2 people for road traffic offences, arrested 3 people, attended 4 sheep that had been attacked by a dog, helped launch the Rural Crime Handbook, undergone additional community problem solving training, patrolled for 2 days trying to prevent hare coursing - taking a strong message/warning to believed hare coursers, attended 2 hare coursing incidents, put out nearly 30 hare coursing patrol signs, and 10 sheep/livestock worrying signs.
