Street Watch launch brings total to 18 across the county

Alert message sent 13/10/2020 15:48:00

Information sent on behalf of Bedfordshire Police

On Sunday 4 October our Citizens in Policing (CiP) Unit launched its third Street Watch group this year in the Heron and Sovereign Quay area of Bedford, bringing the total to 18 groups across Bedfordshire.

The event was supported by members of the CiP unit and Special Constables who joined together with Street Watch volunteers to carry out the first patrol of the area.

Juliet Wright, Watch Scheme Coordinator, said: “This is the third Street Watch we have launched this year, and the second since Covid-19 restrictions came into place. It’s great to see communities coming together during these challenging times and wanting to help their neighbours, friends and family feel safe by setting up this new group.”

Street Watch is made up of volunteers who want to help make areas safer for their residents. They receive information about reported crime and anti-social behaviour to enable them to target patrols in certain areas to deter criminal activity and provide visible reassurance to residents. Street Watch volunteers provide a vital link between residents and the force’s community policing teams.

If you are interested in joining an existing Street Watch group or would like to set up a group in your area, please email watchschemes@bedfordshire.pnn.police.uk or visit https://crowd.in/bYGT9K
