Rural Crime Week Of Action

Alert message sent 15/10/2020 14:41:00

Information sent on behalf of Bedfordshire Police

Throughout the week, Bedfordshire Rural Crime Team Officers have been raising awareness and supporting Rural Crime Week Of Action and Operation Crucible.

Op Crucible is a Country wide Operation that sees Police from across the Country joined by experts from Historic England, the government service that champions England's heritage to carry out checks on scrap metal dealers. Checks include -
  • Theft and handling of stolen scrap metal
  • Operating without a licence or outside of their licence
  • Buyers making cash payments or sellers taking cash payments in exchange for scrap metal.
Throughout the week our Officers have been carrying out patrols at vulnerable churches and locations, completing dedicated patrols to deter and target any illegal Hare Coursing activity, encouraging the use of the free What3Words app and targeting Fly-tipping and Waste carriers offences alongside the local authorities/councils.

We have also managed to catch a swan before it engaged in any fowl behaviour!

Yesterday, after responding to several reports of Hare Coursing activity, Officers reported 3 males and seized 2 vehicles.
