No Fly-Tipping

Alert message sent 20/10/2020 12:25:00

Information sent on behalf of Bedfordshire Police

In order to tackle Fly-Tipping across Bedfordshire, our NFU local adviser brought together enforcement Officers from all 3 Bedfordshire Councils along with a representative from the Rural Crime Team. This has set up the pan-Beds fly-tipping group. There will be lots more joint working and enforcement to come from these groups.

Please report Fly-tipping to the relevant local authority directly at www.bedford.gov.uk, www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk and www.luton.gov.uk.

Fly-tippers often target households via social media or local advertising, luring customers in with cheap rates to dispose of unwanted furniture, building rubble or garden waste. However, these unlicensed waste carriers often simply dump the waste wherever they can get away with it, including our Rural country lanes.

If using a commercial service, householders should check whether someone is licensed to carry waste by visiting the environment agency website. It also helps if householders receive a written receipt or transfer note, including contact details, description of waste removed and details of where the waste is being taken to.

Scrap Metal dealer licence - The Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 states that anyone collecting, buying or selling scrap metal, including motor salvage operators, needs a scrap metal dealer's licence. This is to improve operating standards and prevent illegal operations.

These do not replace the Waste Carrier's Licence. To collect scrap, you will also need a Waste Carrier's Licence that is issued by the Environment Agency - You must register if your business does any of the following:

-transports waste (a carrier)
-buys, sells or disposes of waste (a dealer)
-arranges for someone else to buy, sell, or dispose of waste (a broker).

Keep Bedfordshire Tidy.
